Pontefract`s under 14s finished with a win and a defeat from a three - way tournament
involving Wetherby and Moortown. Despite only playing once this season Ponte were
quickly into their stride in their first game against Moortown as speedy centre
Jacob Scott sailed over for the first try. The pack were dominant and Kyle Scott
and James Thackery made the in-roads from which Julian Thackery went over to give
Ponte a half time score of 10-0. They then weathered a fierce onslaught from the
Moortown youngsters, with full back Bradley Oates making a couple of telling tackles
And Michael O`Donnell Ben Robinson and Andrew Fradgley combinding some big hits
with some determined carries. After only a brief respite , Ponte took on a refreshed
Wetherby side. Chris Widdop was unlucky not to cross after good work from Jake
Hopps and Josh Beddis and though Wetherby took the lead with a contentious try,
Jonny Fox`s powerful break levelled up the scores just before the interval. Wetherby
crossed twice in the second half to secure the win , Pontefract were well led
by Liam Greenwood, and can reflect on their efforts with a great deal of pride
and satisfaction. Scott was the player of the tournament for Pontefract.
Pontefract under 14s are always looking for new players--training is on Tuesday
and Thursday evenings at Moor Lane starting at 6pm, all new players will be made
welcome.
